Flow

The starting point for any CFD simulation – the Flow module solves the full Navier-Stokes equations. A range of density equations are available to allow for incompressible, compressible and compressible liquid properties. Viscosity equations enable the modelling of both Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids. A comprehensive range of boundary conditions help define even the most advanced applications.t.

Turbulence

MP Multiphase

The modelling of how liquids and gases interact is important for the design of many devices. Simerics uses the Volume of Fluid method to track the interface between different fluids. This is the basis of the Marine Template and is also used for many other applications such as gearbox oil sloshing, water fording and tank filling.

Cavitation

Cavitation is a common phenomenon in water and oil pumps where bubbles form and collapse as the flow accelerates around corners. Simerics-MP includes a robust and extensively tested Cavitation module based on the Rayleigh-Plesset equation. This models both the formation of vapour and the expansion of absorbed gas.

Mass-Transfer

In addition to the multi-phase capability Simerics includes both a multi-component module and a species transport module. These are methods for modelling the mixing of similar fluids.

Heat

The Heat Module adds the conservation of energy equation to the simulation. This allows for the modelling of compressible flows and most kinds of heat transfer applications including convection combined with conduction in solids. Boundary conditions include convection coefficients, heat fluxes and radiation along with volumetric heat sources.

Radiation

Thermal radiation is significant at higher temperatures or where conduction and convection heat transfer is minimal. The radiation module adds a view factor radiation model to the heat module. Radiation passing through glass or other transparent materials is also modelled.

Acoustics

The acoustics module simulates the generation and transmission of sound waves in a domain. It includes a choice of the Broadband Source, Lighthill Stress and Ffwocs Willams Hawkings models. Noise prediction assists in the design of fans, propellers and other flow devices.

Simerics allows for fluid structural interaction with rigid bodies. In the Dynamics module translational or rotational motions are either prescribed or calculated in terms of force balance equations. Very complex scenarios are possible when combined with the use of the Simerics Expression Language.
