It has proved to be a very streamlined and robust CFD tool to run ship hull and propeller or waterjet simulations. Geometry preparation is easy and comes directly from our CAD modeling methods. The meshing is simple, yet flexible enough to model the critical attributes of the simulation. Solutions have proven to be very reliable and accurate. The code is very fast. Simerics has enabled us to investigate the details of the flow around the hull, appendages and propellers.

We found that Simerics-MP+ is easy to-use, fast, and very robust in creating pump virtual models to predict the flow performance exhibited in gerotor and vane pumps. The applications of Simerics-MP+ have effectively helped us eliminate many technical bottlenecks and increase our analysis throughput. What we find great with Simerics-MP is the capability to set-up a complex model very quickly and be able to get results for a transient analysis in a few hours. This allow us to use the software for new projects as well as troubleshooting. We did validate Simerics-MP with our test-bench data and found that it is very accurate both for global quantities prediction and for local effects like cavitation damage. Overall, we are very happy with the software because it helps raise our department productivity and improve the quality of our work.

There are many CFD tools to choose from; however, there is no doubt that Simerics-MP+ is the perfect CFD tool for multiple automotive applications. Hyundai successfully uses Simerics-MP+ for the analysis of cavitation and pressure fluctuation in its fluid power systems. It is uniquely suited to deal with very small gaps where cavitation can occur. I look forward to utilizing Simerics-MP+ even more in the future as new developments are released.

Heat
The Heat Module adds the conservation of energy equation to the simulation. This allows for the modelling of compressible flows and most kinds of heat transfer applications including convection combined with conduction in solids. Boundary conditions include convection coefficients, heat fluxes and radiation along with volumetric heat sources.

Radiation
Thermal radiation is significant at higher temperatures or where conduction and convection heat transfer is minimal. The radiation module adds a view factor radiation model to the heat module. Radiation passing through glass or other transparent materials is also modelled.

Acoustics
The acoustics module simulates the generation and transmission of sound waves in a domain. It includes a choice of the Broadband Source, Lighthill Stress and Ffwocs Willams Hawkings models. Noise prediction assists in the design of fans, propellers and other flow devices.
